Bed Bugs in Motel 6

With the legendary voice of Tom Bodett extolling the virtues of a hotel stay at one of their many properties, Motel 6 has been a favorite budget hotel in North America for more than 50 years. With 1,100 locations, both company owned and franchised, throughout the United States and Canada, besides “leaving the light on for you” the company prides itself on providing a clean, comfortable room for less than any other national chain. Unfortunately bed bugs often decide to damage the company’s reputation by inhabiting the beds of some of their hotels guests.

Significant Amounts of Bed Bug Cases in Motel 6

We have had the opportunity to help numerous clients obtain compensation from the Texas-based chain for bed bug bites and related losses. The vast majority of the claims are handled in-house through their office’s risk management department. We have found, the risk management department puts up an aggressive defense and consistently makes low-ball offers to victims. As experienced attorneys, dealing specifically with bed bug issues, we’re here to help our clients get fair compensation for their unfortunate experience.

While every Motel 6 is different and not everyone has had claims of bed bugs brought against it, we do receive — on an annual basis — many complaints from potential clients all across the country who have been injured by bed bugs. We’re happy to help you with your case, no matter which state you live in or which Motel 6 property you stayed in.

  1. I stayed at a motel 6 for 3 weeks in August of 2013. Within a couple of days I started having red welts/bites. I went to the front desk and told them something was wrong and they said it was probably flees. Over the course of the next week both my dog and myself still had the red bites/welts again I was told it was flees. I went out and rented a rug dr cleaned the carpets. I finally told the front desk I was leaving because I was being eaten alive. I told them after research I think it’s bed bugs not flees. Oct 13, 2013 I was contacted my Motel 6 risk management stating that yes indeed the room was infested with bed bugs and they would like to offer me a free night stay. I was really upset because I had reported it to the front desk 6 times. I did hire an attorney but he’s not good at all. It’s been over a year the settlement in minimal. I would like a second opinion and possibly see if having a different attorney will make a difference.

  2. I booked a room for two nights at a Motel 6 in Glendale Wisconsin. The first night while I was sleeping I kept itching so I turn on the lights and lifted the sheets and saw many bed bugs crawling around. I took pictures and immediately showered got rid of all clothes which were very expensive and went to the front desk and told the worker what happened. She apologized and refunded me for the 2 nights but I have numerous bites and the truma of wondering if I brought them home with me or not. I have a hard time sleeping at night.

  3. RW,

Your concerns of bringing the bed bugs home with you are valid and reasonable. We strongly encourage you to call a local exterminator familiar with bed bugs to come to your home and conduct an inspection. If you require further assistance and have an interest in pursuing a claim against Motel 6 give us a call today.

  4. I’m an attorney with a potential bed bug case referral. Our client was staying at a Motel 6 in Oklahoma City last December. He believes he was bitten by bed bugs while there. Has pictures.

  6. I stayed at Motel 6 in Columbia, South Carolina for several days, on one occasion. I didn’t have the $50 cash until I went to work to make it, so I checked out for the day, went back that night, different room. I was exhausted from working and didn’t bring much in. I didn’t sleep well. Around 5:00 am I woke up, and found a bedbug on my shirt. I immediately checked my kids for bugs, and went downstairs to office. The young man on duty had a sign placed on window stating no vacancies. He asked if I was OK (I must have looked terrified!), he told me that the management wasn’t available until 9:00 am, and no room for me to switch into. I had taken the shirt with the bug on it with me, he took pictures of it and I did too. Went back to the room and let my kids get some rest. They woke up around 7:30 am. My youngest had a bite on her face that wasn’t there before laying down. I took pictures of it and went to office at 9:00 am to speak with manager. The night shift must have already warned him about this matter.

  7. While staying at Motel 6 located at 1709 Edgewood Road Edgewood MD 21040 on January 22, 2015 I couldn’t sleep because I started to itch uncontrollable, after finally dosing off I woke up the morning of the 23rd and noticed red mark on my legs, ankles, back and arms but still didn’t know what was happening. On the 28th still itching and turning more reddish I showed someone my legs and it was then I was told that I had bugs bite. I went back to the hotel to inform them about the situation and I told them that they shouldn’t let anyone in room #270 because I have bugs bite and it came from that room, she stated that she knew and that I should get off the property and this is why I feel that I needed to take action. This is the first time that I have ever consider taken action against anyone and this is the reason I’m contacting your company just to see what’s my options. Looking forward to hearing from someone and thanks for your time.

  16. Christmas was a long time ago. Have you made a claim with the hotel yet? If not, if may be too late to start one now unless there is significant evidence of the infestation and injury.

  17. Motel 6 bed bug bite injury cases are very common. Motel 6 is a national chain with corporate owned and franchised locations. Depending on the ownership status of the particular motel 6 where you received your bed bug bite injuries will determine how quickly your claim can be resolved. 18. I recently stayed at 1709 Edgewood Rd Wich is a motel 6 I was taking my fiancee out of town for his birthday, we we’re laying on the bed and he had a welt come up on his arm that seemed to have came from nowhere, I also had two spots on my ankle that had extreme itching, I scratched so hard I now have a open sore on my ankle, we saw something crawling on the bed, we jumped up and saw it was a roach, I inspected the bed closer and discovered a bed bug on my pillow where I had just been laying, I have pictures proving this along with pictures of how nasty the rest of the room was the temperature was 10 degrees outside and I left the room in my night shorts at 230 am I’m from Atlanta so let me add how scarey it was being out that late that far away from home with no where to go at that time of morning, not to mention it completely ruined my fiancee’s birthday

  20. I stayed in a Motel 6 in Hayward, California. I didn’t realize my room had bed bugs. I was wondering why I was scratching my arms and behind my neck. I woke up on the third morning and found a bed bug crawling across my pillow. I put the bed bug in a small jar and showed it to the hotel staff including the manager in the morning. They said yep that’s a bed bug; we can just move you to a different room. At least Becky above who complained got 2 comp nights. They just offered to move me to a different room and charge me for another nights stay. Mind you, this is 2018 and should not be treated like this. Does anyone know who I can complain to? They treated me like I should be so glad that I have a hotel room to stay in. I read on the internet that bed bugs can literally walk from one room to another effortlessly. I’m really angry at this moment.

  21. Glo, thank you for contacting Bed bug law. You are absolutely right, bed bugs can travel from one room to another with ease, and they do. They travel by crawling through cracks in walls and even across halls. Bed bugs can travel through electrical lines or on the clothing of housekeeping staff. Oftentimes, hotels spread them around their own building through improper pest control methods. Please contact us to discuss your bed bug injury claim. Please call us or fill out our form online to upload pictures. Visit https://www.bedbuglaw.com/do-i-have-a-case to upload photos and videos of your injuries and of the bugs you saw. We will review them and provide a free bed bug injury case evaluation. Thank you and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

  22. Rented a room at a Motel 6 in Victoria, Tx. on 4/13/18 that was the worst room I’ve ever seen with the nastiest, dirtiest bathroom imagineable with chunks of the badly stained shower floor missing, dirty towels, uncleaned toilet, the room reeked if cigarette smoke, bed cover was filthy. etc. etc. It was a late night check in, so I was too tired to argue. Tried resting, but after two hours felt itching and my left shoulder was covered with bed bugs so I got up and left. Even after a few days, I still have scars from the bed bug damage that may take weeks to recover…I’ve been making complaints online to warn other people to stay away from that particular Motel 6. Wouldn’t go back there if they paid me.

  23. Joe, Motel 6 is a giant hotel chain with properties across the country. Regardless of a hotel brand name or number of stars, most hotel properties will experience bed bugs at some point. It is very unfortunate you had to endure an infestation during your hotel stay. We would be able to review your particular claim and help any way we can. Please call us or visit https://www.bedbuglaw.com/do-i-have-a-case to upload photos, videos and a summary of what happened to you. Once received, we can begin the process of evaluating your potential claim. Thank you for contacting Bed Bug Law and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

  24. Motel 6 is a huge chain of hotels across the country. Not all Motel 6 locations will be infested with bed bugs, but the odds are stacked against them when they own so many properties. Some motel 6’s are privately owned, while others are owned by the corporate office. This is an important distinction because in our experience privately owned Motel 6 locations are reluctant to participate in our investigations which sometimes results in lawsuits needing to be filed. In those situations, we need to be sure that your claim is properly investigated so we can prove you were injured by bed bugs, and that the hotel knew or should have known about the bed bugs infestation. We are able to evaluate your claim if you provide some evidence in support of your claim that you were injured. Contact us any time either by calling or submitting our form at https://www.bedbuglaw.com/do-i-have-a-case

  25. So I’m at the motel 6 in Metter ga and I got two small bumps on my leg. The thing is that I don’t see any bedbugs though I can see the red spots and small black dots which are signs of bed bugs on the bed. I don’t see bed bugs and I’m not trying to find them.

  26. Wesley, thank you for reaching out to us. Although you may not see live bugs, it does not mean that they are not there. You can look under and behind the mattress for evidence of bed bugs. Generally, if an infestation is present, bed bugs will likely bite a human host 2-3 each. The more bites suffered, the more likely the infestation is heavy. If your injuries were caused by bed bugs, it is likely there was only 1 or 2 live bugs present from a previous guest. Two small bumps and nothing more would be very unlikely to give rise to a claim for bed bug injuries.
