How can you know if you are a victim of bed bugs?

When you stay in a Florida hotel, you assume the room you’ve rented is clean and free from sanitary issues that could cause you harm. Unfortunately, this is not always the case as hotels, motels and other places where you may stay could have bed bugs. These tiny nuisances are capable of leaving you with bites that can leave you with discomfort for weeks or months. It may be helpful for you to recognize when you have bed bugs and know what you can do to protect yourself.

Bed bugs are small, brownish insects that live off the blood of humans and other animals. With adult bugs being about the size of an apple seed, it is not surprising that many people do not know the signs of a bed bug infestation or how they can treat themselves if they have been bitten. They are often in beds as this gives them easy access to humans, allowing them to feed with ease.

Where could you find bed bugs?

Bed bugs do not fly, but they blend in with their surroundings and hide. The most common place to find bed bugs is in a bed or sleeping surface, such as on a mattress, sheets, bed frame or box springs, but you may also find them in luggage, clothes, furniture and in other places where they can find food easily. While the presence of bed bugs is not always a sign of dirtiness, hotels are responsible for ensuring beds are clean and safe for guests.

Bed bugs are more active at night, and you could wake up in a bed itching and with bites without having noticed any sign that something is wrong. Signs of a possible infestation could include stains on walls or sheets, a bad odor or waking up with bites on your body. If you stay in a hotel and notice something is wrong, you should speak out and avoid sleeping anywhere you don’t feel safe.

Victims of bed bug bites

Victims of bed bug bites that occurred while they were staying in a hotel have rights. These individuals do not have to remain silent about what they experienced, but they can seek to hold the hotel accountable for their duress, as well as any financial losses they experienced as a result of the incident. If you are a victim, you may benefit from seeking an explanation of the legal options available to you.
