Bed bugs are found literally all over the world. These insects are invasive, hardy and world travelers. Actually, their ability to hitch a ride is one factor that makes it so hard to say where they come from or how you ended up with them.
There are few places where people may be more likely to pick up bed bugs, such as hotels, Airbnb or vacation rentals. These types of high-traffic establishments appear to be bed bug hubs. However, just as frightening is the fact they can travel in everyday compartments.
Bed bug vehicles
Bed bugs aren’t restricted to dirty homes or environments. That’s a myth. As a matter of fact, you could walk into a place and not even suspect an infestation. If you make yourself comfortable in a place that has bed bugs, you have a good chance of bringing them with you when you go because they can travel in:
- Bags: Bed bugs will hitch a ride in luggage, diaper bags, laptop carriers and even purses.
- Clothing: If you sit down and they attach to your clothing, you could potentially bring them with you.
- Furniture: Bed bugs can come to you via purchased furniture, especially soft wood, where they can burrow.
- Guests: Despite all of your efforts to spot and avoid bed bugs, others can bring them into your home.
