Bed Bug Bites? We Can Help!

What to do if your Airbnb has bed bugs

On Behalf of | Dec 13, 2022 | AirBNB / VRBO

Airbnbs have become extremely popular as an alternative to hotels. They offer more amenities of home and can typically be found for lower rates.

However, what happens if you discover your Airbnb has bed bugs? Do you have recourse or legal options? If you find yourself in this situation, be sure to follow these steps.

Report the issue

Reporting the issue to the host is the first step to take in this situation. You can file an official complaint and request an insect refund. Be sure to handle all this through the Airbnb website so the company has documentation of your complaint and can contact the host on your behalf.

Gather evidence

Having evidence of the bed bug issue is imperative if you plan to take legal action. The best way to gather evidence is with photos. You can photograph the bugs, bite marks and stains on the mattress or other items on the property. You should include these in your formal complaint and keep a copy for your records.

It is smart to review prior guest reviews to see if anyone else has had bed bug issues in the property before. This may be used as evidence in some situations.

Consider your legal options

It can be tricky to sue Airbnb for a bed bug infestation. Often, the only time this is possible is if the company knew of the infestation and allowed the host to rent the property anyway.

In some situations, holding the host responsible and liable for the injuries and damages you suffer due to the bed bug infestation may be possible. Knowing your legal rights and options is the best way to recover damages if this is possible. If you have more questions, contact Bed Bug Law for assistance.
